SCULPTURE

FROM

SCRAP

This is a new course to the guild it is not traditional but talk about getting the imagination going it obviously work.

There were 5 students on the course. Before the course we had sent them a short flyer asking them to think about what they would ideally like to make on the course, taking into account the time constraints and availability of materials. This flyer also set some expectations about what the course was intended to teach them during the weekend.

Most students either turned up with lots of ideas or lots of scrap, some with both. Bill took the prize for bringing the most scrap as he brought down his employers entire scrap skip for the weekend. There was over 1 tonne of material in it. He ended up taking home more than he brought, so the Company Christmas fund didn't suffer!

I even managed to collect some scrap from the B&B that I was staying at during the weekend.

During the course the following sculptures were made ,a Duck. a Heron, an Owl, Maggotipede, Tree woman, a Table that looked as though it was either dancing or about to run to run off across the workshop (with out the top as it was to be made from stone) , a spitfire with rotating propeller, there was even a Norman Helmet complete with arrow through the eye but this didn't quite get finished.

The feedback from the students was that they had enjoyed themselves on the weekend and were very pleased with what they had created. All round an enjoyable weekend.

Best Regards

Steve

Many thanks to Steve for this course. I know it's not blacksmithing but what an imagination you lot had. It introduced people to using Iron and what fun it can be. The pictures below show it, so click on the  thumbnail images to see the lager picture and use your back arrow to return to this page.
